Is This Sativa Or Indica - Wait What's a Hybrid??

Updated: Feb 18, 2022

We've heard the words "sativa" and "indica" but for some of us (especially if you are new to the cannabis world, whether medical or recreational) still may not be a hundred percent sure of what that entails (not to mention now we have something called "hybrids"!).

Hopefully I can help clear up some confusion!

Sativa strains such as Jack Herer, Sour Diesel, and Poison Durban (just to name a few and all of them having different levels of potency) support uplifting, more energized and focused and/or clarity states of being. Some people say this is more of a "head high" type of feeling or to put it simply-you feel the effects of this strain more in your head. It increases serotonin levels which help boost your mood and may help with reducing signs of depression and mood disorders. It can also help with increasing creativity. Depending on the THC level of the bud you partake of-it could just be the the thing you need to hep you get motivated to clean out the fridge!

While strains like Granddaddy Purple, Blueberry and 9 lb Hammer are all examples of Indica strains. And just like the sativa flower all have varying levels of potency. With this type of strain you would feel the effects more in your body as a relaxed feeling due to the slightly higher level of CBD (but more THC than hemp). This strain helps the body to release more dopamine thereby giving you what seasoned smokers call a "body high". Many people like to use indica strains at night to help with reducing anxiety and/or muscle pain. It can also work well when you have insomnia.

Now we come to the term "hybrid". This strain type has to be my favorite on a nice weather day that I can just have to myself. And this is why... with a hybrid strain you get the best of both worlds-you get a bit of the uplifted, energized, euphoric & getting stuff done kind of feeling then after a while of this state of being you start to transition into a state of relaxation and calm feeling.

This strain comes from crossing sativa with indica strains together in order to give any number of mixed effects from these two parent strains.

I hope this has helped in lessening the confusion that can come with the weed industry that is sweeping-well everywhere!

Please keep in mind that a Sativa, Indica and a Hybrid can affect you differently depending on your body chemistry and while it can be said in general, how a particular strain will effect you the effects can vary from person to person.

BONUS:

The way I remember the difference between a Sativa and an Indica is to think of indica puts you in da' couch. 😉
